EYTS Deceptive Flexibility 1

You may have some students who are able to move very far into poses, maybe further than you!  They pay a very high cost for this deceptive flexibility. Their spinal muscles work overtime and their hip ligaments are over-stretched. This causes an instability in their hip joints and tremendous spinal compression, which can lead to early hip replacement surgery, arthritis in their hips and/or spine as well as serious digestive problems.

Svaroopa® yoga helps heal the damage they are unknowingly causing.  This Continuing Ed course teaches you how to spot hyperflexible students as well as how to prop them (or yourself!) for maximum effectiveness.  Most importantly, you learn how to work with their minds to transcend the ‘picture perfect’ paradigm they’ve brought from dance backgrounds, other yoga styles or athletic practices.

This professional training also serves as the prerequisite for Deceptive Flexibility 2, a program debuting in 2017.  Focusing on strenuous poses, you learn to do them in a way that creates deep spinal release while strengthening and stabilizing your joints.  This training will be available in 2017 for graduates of YTT Level 3; more information will be available soon.

DETAILS

Prerequisites: successful completion of YTT Level 1.

Preparation: You have taught at least 8 Intro or Continuing Yoga classes within the previous six months.

Time: first day 2:00 - 9:30 pm (less meals & recesses), middle days 6:30 am - 9:30 pm (less meals & recesses), last day 6:30 am - 12:30 pm (less meals & recesses).

Course confirmation date: February 16, 2018

Successful completion of this course will reinstate and extend your Current Standing status for Continuing Education. No DTS and no homework is required, thus no certification is offered.
