Getting over Jetlag

  • Get your eating schedule on the local time.
  • Stay up as much as possible to get onto the local time., especially being in the daylight. Getting tired in the evening makes the next day easier.
  • For poses, do more Ujjayi Pranayama.  And inversions (SloMo, Legs up the Wall)
  • Bring vata down
    • Eat warm and well-cooked food. Drink hot water. Avoid cold and uncooked food.
    • Oil up if possible. At least put oil on your joints, hands, feet, earlobes and belly.

Seva

  • Hall setup (Fred & Priya)
    • Burn incense every morning for 5 minutes
    • Take care of candles for each of our programs:
      • Start of each program: light candles, do arati to the photos
      • End of each program: put out candles
    • Each morning you'll get flowers for the Baba photos, one garland for each Baba.
  • Emcee (Sudevi & Girijananda)
    • Make announcements. Satrupananda will let you know which announcements and when.
  • Guest Speaker Host (Kushala)
    • Six times in the retreat we will have a guest speaker come in at 2:30pm.
    • Get a garland ahead of time for each guest speaker. You will be garlanding them.
    • You will meet them at 2:15pm when they arrive. You will show them where they are going.
    • Gurudevi will introduce them. Kushala will garland and shawl them. We will provide the shawl. 
    • Satrupananda will provide Kushala with the schedule.
  • Gurudevi support in the hall (Karuna)
    • Same support as we give at Lokananda.
    • Stay in the hall with Gurudevi and ensure she has what she needs - water, chai, etc.
  • Pujari manager (Kelly McMillan & Karuna (train/backup))
    • Create a schedule for aratis. Shrutananda will provide you with timings.
    • Have students sign-up for arati.
    • For each arati, remind student of their arati and give them candle.
  • Program Liaison (Gurupremananda)
    • Everyone else: Any questions about your housing or meals - go to Gurupremananda.
    • Gurupremananda will coordinate with Iqbal & Moti for your needs.
    • Gurupremananda will also support you as we move throughout the town and from one even to another. This is similar to the Mom seva role we have at Lokananda but juiced up!
  • Chai & Biscuits Servers (Nirooshitha & Jenny)
    • Chai will be provided.
    • You will buy biscuits in town. Visit different vendors.
    • They are served most afternoons. 
  • House Moms
    • Team Manager (Lajja)
    • Kothavalla House Mom (Jayadevi)
    • Temple View House Mom (Kelly Sullivan)

    • Lajja will meet with the House Moms every day and check in with how everyone is doing. Moms are responsible for checking in on those staying in your house.
  • Meditation Hall Bathroom Supplies (Mangala)
    • You are not doing any cleaning. You are making sure there is enough toilet paper, soap, etc. Check to see if cleaning is needed. If supplies or cleaning is needed, let Gurupremananda know.
  • Meditation Hall Cleaning (Aikyaa, Eileen & Antarajña)
    • During lunch recess (longest recess), sweep & tidy.
    • Antarajña will dust pujas.
