What to Expect
As a Client
Your personal yoga therapy session begins with an intake interview. Your yoga therapy sessions are designed meet you where you are, but we first have to understand where that is. Important information includes how you feel today and what kind of improvement you are looking for. In addition, we need to know about any medical diagnoses and medications.
If you have pain, your first session will focus on reducing or relieving your pain with a yogic breathing practice. Once we can assess its effectiveness, you’ll get homework – to take care of yourself by reducing your pain level daily until your next session.
After pain reduction, we are able to address the root causes from the yogic perspective while incorporating your medical information. Using therapeutic poses as well as a quiet guided self-inquiry process, we target and unravel underlying causes, to empower your body to begin its healing.
Your homework changes as you improve, going through the process in a proactive and intelligent way. You learn how to take care of yourself, as well as how to access the bliss of the inner healing flow.
As a Therapist-in-Training
At the same time you are learning to treat others, you move through the process yourself. Your body rediscovers how to heal through the therapeutic tools we use. This is a tantric interweaving of physical improvement, mental-emotional transformation and deep inner expansion.
During PYT 262: Treating Pain, decades of tension were released from my body. The sutra studies and meditations took me to a deeper level too. So many people suffer from pain, I expect that my private client base will increase. - Abby C.
Your courses are onsite immersion trainings that shelter you like a growing plant in a greenhouse. Each immersion is followed by an at-home mentoring process titled “Develop Your Therapeutic Skills” (DTS). During DTS, you are working as a yoga therapist, already generating income while you make a difference in people’s lives.
To prepare for your next immersion, you complete a “Preparation” assignment, which is often simply completing a certain number of yoga therapy sessions on paying clients. Thus your professional practice grows along with your mastery of the therapeutic skills.
