Live La Jolla '02

By Gurudevi Nirmalananda & Group

Join in the bliss! Our live chant features the voices of 75 Svaroopa® yoga teachers along with a band including sitar, drum, harmonium and more. Led by Gurudevi Nirmalananda, then Rama Berch, we went from loud and fast to slow and deep, all charted in these three ecstatic chants.

Shree Maa

Jaya Shiva Shankara

Mt. Kailasa OM Namah Shivaaya

Shree Maa Jai Maa 15:34

This joyous chant cycles through many of the Sanskrit names for the Goddess, the Mother of the universe. Her subtle form is energy (Shakti), the energy that becomes matter. Thus she underlies all that exists. Each of her different names calls upon another one of her Divine Powers, for outer blessings and inner revelation.

Honor the Divine Goddess in this joy-filled chant of love and celebration.  Calling her name again and again invokes her inner arising, lifting your spirits to the Divine within you.

Shree Maa — Honored Mother

Jai Maa — Hail to Mother

Chiti Shankari — She who brings the universe into existence

Uma Parvati — She who shelters and protects

Kali Durge — She who frees me from my demons (outer and inner)

Jaya Shiva Shankara 12:11

Shiva is the one who is moving as the energy.  You can think of Shiva as Beingness, while Shakti (the Goddess) is Doingness. Thus the goal in yoga is to get beyond the doing to the knowing of your own Beingness.

This chant features many of Gurudevi's favorite names for Shiva. It is a little bit like whispering all your pet nicknames to someone beloved to you, a wonderful way of expessing your devotion. It has a cheery rhythm yet not too fast. She wrote it for the purpose of celebrating life and the One who gave it to us.

Name Shiva in his many modes of expression, from the most cosmic, Parameshvara, to the most passionate, Parvati Pati. Dance with him in his fiery dance of creation as Nataraja, and settle into peace with him as Shambho.

Shiva — the One Divine Reality

Shankara — Shiva as teacher

Parameshvara —  the Lord of all the Gods

Nataraja —  Shiva dancing the universe into existence

Parvati-Pati —  Parvati’s Lord, the beloved of the Goddess

Shambho —  the one who bestows peace

Mount Kailasa Melody for OM Namah Shivaaya 6:30

Trek into the Himalayas, to visit the most sacred Mt. Kailasa, Shiva’s abode. The melody captures the trudging, shuffling, climbing for hours each day, culminating in an expansive chant to the Divine within. Discover how your diligence in day-to-day can lead to the expansive inner experience of your own Self.

OM — the primordial sound

Namah — I honor, I bow to

Shivaaya — Shiva found within me, Shiva being me.
