Mystical Song of the Guru
By Gurudevi Nirmalananda
Develop your understanding of the Guru through the teachings in this ancient text - sung in English!
Sing along for a profound inner opening, which is the purpose of the chant as well as the purpose of having a Guru.
Gurudevi Nirmalananda has prepared this versification, rendering the Sanskrit words in modern English.
She sings it, ending with her English version of Jyota se Jyota, the poem of gratitude written to honor her Guru.

This Sanskrit text is full of technical terms and tantric teachings. Gurudevi explains them in her commentary discourses, with a number of verses available in her podcast on the Guru Gita.
Shree Guru Gita in English (49:24)
When someone brought this Sanskrit text to Swami Muktananda, he made it the morning chant for the Ashram residents. They had previously been chanting the Bhagavadgita, half of the 700 verses each day. The new text, with only 182 verses, was much more approachable.
Gurudevi has made it even more accessible with her English versification. You can listen to it or you can chant with it by using the published version in Yoga's Sacred Songs: Chants of Svaroopa® Yoga.
Jyota se Jyota in English (5:17)
Honoring her Guru, Gurudevi puts her heart into this chant, now in English for all to understand. She includes a shorter version in her weekly meditation programs, while the full chant is included here.
A renowned vocalist in India wrote this beautiful poem of praise, a prayer for blessings as well as a deep teaching on the nature of the Guru-Disciple relationship. After he gifted it to Baba, it was used as his "theme song," chanted in Hindi when doing the candle flame ceremony to him.
Now you can understand the rich meaning in these verses as you invoke Baba's blessings. They flow through, even in English!
